Consultation by the Friends of Kirkgate Park

Maps placed round the town over which people brood.

Once the FoKP group had been established, extensive research and consultation was undertaken by the group. This included:
Drawing competition - local primary school pupils were asked to represent what they would like to see in the park.
Discussions were held with Kinross High School pupils to gather their views on what would be desirable in the park.
Questionnaires were distributed locally and 552 replies were received. These were logged using an on-line database and analysis showed strong community support for renewing and improving the facilities in the park.
A design pack was issued to interested parties who were asked for their ideas for designing the park.
The Children's Hospice (CHAS), located in the grounds of nearby Kinross House, was consulted about what facilities they would like to see in the park.
A detailed ecological study was carried out in the park and the recommendations for increasing the biodiversity will be implemented in the plan.
Funding was sought and obtained from the PKC Area Based Initiative Fund in order to fund a draft Masterplan. A landscape architect was employed and following a series of meetings with PKC and SNH, a draft plan was produced. This was then shown to all stakeholders: Kinross Community Council, Kinross Estate Company, Kinross-shire Partnership, local Councillors, SNH, TRACKS and Perth and Kinross Council officers. All parties enthusiastically endorsed the plan.
The plan was displayed around Kinross for several weeks. It was also shown at the Kinross Agricultural Show and the SNH Family Day. Comments were invited and assimilated into the plan.
Over 100 local groups have been circulated with the updated plan and their comments invited. Some examples of their replies can be found below.
